The app remembers your choice for every file. Change colors under **Page colours**. ## Where are the reading settings in One Clear Reader? Almost every reading setting in One Clear Reader lives behind the **Aa** button at the top right. Click it and you get a small panel: - **Appearance**: the look of the window itself. - **Page colours**: the theme for the page. - **Text size**: two A buttons to step the size up or down. - **Page width**: how wide the column of text is. - **Focus on one paragraph**: dims everything except one block. - **Fill the window**: makes the window fill your screen, or puts it back. - **Full view**: the page takes over the whole screen. - **Reading profile**: ready-made sets of font, size and spacing. **Page colours** and **Reading profile** open a bigger sheet called **Page**, with three tabs: **Colours**, **Text** and **My themes**. To set your own font and spacing, choose **Custom** (Pro) in the One Clear Reader **Reading profile** menu. More settings appear below it: - **Font**: DM Sans, System, Atkinson Hyperlegible, Literata, Verdana, Arial or a readable serif. - **Body size**, **Line spacing**, **Paragraph spacing**, **Letter spacing**, **Word spacing** and **Reading width**, each with a slider. - **Headings**: font and weight. - **Heading sizes**: separate sizes for the title and three heading levels. To keep a set you like, type a name under **Save these text settings** and click **Save current settings**. You can keep up to 20. Pick one from **Saved profiles** and click **Use selected** to switch. ## How do I change the page colors in One Clear Reader? To change the page colors in One Clear Reader, pick a theme. Each theme colors the headings, bullets, links, code and diagrams to match. 1. Click **Aa**, then **Page colours**. Or press ⌘K and type `theme`. 2. On the **Colours** tab, under **Themes**, click a card. Each card shows a tiny page in its colors. **Auto**, **Paper**, **Night** and **Mist** are free. Auto follows your Mac: Paper when your Mac is in Light mode, Night in Dark. Pro adds the rest of the 22 themes, in Reading, Developer and Studio families, some with a light and a dark version. If a theme ever puts text in a color that is too faint to read (below a 3:1 contrast), One Clear Reader shows that text in a readable color instead. That safety net works on every plan. ## Can I change the link or heading color in One Clear Reader? Yes. One Clear Reader gives you two ways to change one color. **One accent for everything** changes the title line, bullets, links and quote bar in one go. The 7 preset accents (Coral, Blue, Violet, Green, Gold, Rose, Graphite) are free. Picking your own accent color is Pro. **Adjust colours** (Pro) lets you change each part on its own: 1. In **Page colours**, click **Adjust colours** next to "Your page". 2. Click a color swatch beside any of the 14 parts: page, text, title, the line under the title, heading, subheading, small heading, bold, italic, links, bullets and numbers, quote bar, inline code and table headers. 3. The page changes as you pick. If a color is hard to read against the page, the row says **Hard to see**. Click **Undo** on a row to put that part back. ## How do I save my colors as a One Clear Reader theme? To save your colors as a theme, type a name after adjusting them under **Keep these colours** and click **Save as my theme** (Pro). Your saved themes appear on the **My themes** tab. Each has **Use**, **Rename** and **Delete**. You can keep up to 50. ## How do I make the text bigger in One Clear Reader? One Clear Reader has three tools for making text bigger, and they do different things. If a key does the other thing from what you expected, use the A buttons or the **100%** button instead. Zoom is the one to use when a wide table or diagram is too small. Text size is better when only the paragraphs feel small. ## How do I hide everything except the page in One Clear Reader? To hide everything except the page in One Clear Reader, use **Full view** or **Quiet** (Pro). **Full view** fills the whole screen with the page. Wide tables and diagrams spread out to use the extra room instead of scrolling sideways. Move the pointer to the top edge and the toolbar slides back in. To turn it on, click **Full view** in **Aa**, choose `View › Full View`, or press ⌘K and choose **Full view**. Press Esc to leave. **Quiet** (Pro) hides the toolbar and everything around the page, without going full screen. Press ⌘. or choose **Quiet mode** in ⌘K. Click **Exit Quiet** or press Esc to leave. Full view and Quiet both need you to finish any edit first. ## How is Appearance different from a theme in One Clear Reader? In One Clear Reader, **Appearance** sets the look of the window around the page: the toolbar, panels and menus. **Page colours** set the page itself. The four Appearance choices are **Auto** (follows your Mac), **Off-white**, **Light blue** and **Dark**. All are free. You can mix them, for example a Dark window with the Paper page. ## Does One Clear Reader remember where I stopped reading? Yes. One Clear Reader remembers your scroll position for your last 100 files. Open a file again and you land where you left off. To start from the top instead, press ⌘K and choose **Start at the top**. ## Questions ### Can I use the OpenDyslexic font in One Clear Reader? No, OpenDyslexic isn't in One Clear Reader's font list today. The Neuro-friendly profile uses Atkinson Hyperlegible, a very clear font, with extra spacing. Custom (Pro) lets you pick Atkinson Hyperlegible with your own spacing. ### What happens to my Pro colors when the One Clear Reader trial ends? When the Pro trial ends, the page goes back to the free settings. Custom, Pro themes and Quiet switch off, and the free profiles and the Auto, Paper, Night and Mist themes stay. Buying Pro brings the Pro options back. ### Are One Clear Reader's reading settings saved per file? No, One Clear Reader's reading settings apply to every file, so you set them once. Only your reading position is remembered per file. ### Can I use a dark page with a light window in One Clear Reader? Yes. In One Clear Reader, Appearance and Page colours are separate, so any window look works with any theme. ### Can I zoom the page in One Clear Reader without changing the font? Yes. Use the 100% zoom button in the One Clear Reader toolbar. It scales the whole page, including tables and diagrams, from 50% to 200% and leaves your font and spacing as they are.
